Description

The Qur’an, The Scripture Of Islam

John Gilchrist, 147 pages

This is a book about a book, the holy scripture of hundreds of millions throughout the world. It approaches the Qur’an respectfully but not without questioning its origins and the manner in which it was collected. The first three chapters analyse not only its structure and teaching but also attempt to grasp the heart and soul of the text, in particular the impact it has on Muslim readers. The fourth chapter however, critically evaluates the Qur’an’s claim to be divinely inspired in the light of its contents which often has parallels in pre-Islamic apocryphal literature. The last chapter adresses the manner in which the text was initially collected and standardized into its present form.
